We all have a doppelganger out there somewhere that we rarely get to see. In even rarer cases, we meet and a friendship develops. That's what happened to Elisabeth Gerritzen when she met Flora Mottini, the Swiss-born and -trained artist who, like Elisabeth, has reached great heights and explored all kinds of terrain in her field. Flora's work is inspired by cartoons and psychedelic elements. It's easy to get lost in Flora's work, each of which is its own magical fantasy land. Similar to the way you lose yourself when flying down a powder-filled mountain face - Elisabeth's specialty.
The next generation of premium, lightweight twin-tip skis is here: introducing the Mana Series. Coolly walking the line between backcountry and all-mountain performance, Mana is light to keep your legs fresh all day long, yet reinforced in key areas, including durable edges and a carbon-and-rubber Stomp Pad under the foot. The result is a ski that floats, pops, slashes and soars with supernatural grace, yet maintains absolute stability when you put the landing gear down. Featuring the highest quality materials and eco-conscious construction: local-source ingredients, handcrafted in Austria using 100% renewable energy.
Poplar is a light-coloured, medium-weight, durable softwood that flexes and pops nicely as well as having a whole load of vibration absorption capabilities. Used as the only wood in this core, it allows the ski to pop, butter and stomp like a park ski and also have enough torsional stability to grip impressively on the downhill.
7 fractions of a millimetre might not sound like much, but when it comes to edges, it adds up. The 2.5mm edges stack an extra 35% of height on top of Factions already super-durable standard 1.8mm edges. This extra steel gives the rider a pair of skis that are going to take more abuse and last longer.
A construction that places strips of protective material along the sides of each core, between the edge and the topsheet. Sidewalls provide the best possible edge hold and stability when the ski is engaged in a turn as well as protecting the woodcore, edges and topsheet from impact and outside damage.
A carbon weave sandwiches the ski’s wood core, providing extra stability and torsional rigidity without adding bulk to the build. Feel confident when you're about to pop to the Moon. Between 8 and 12 strips of carbon, sandwiching either side of the ski’s woodcore, are laid unidirectionally, providing extra stability to the ski, without adding bulk to the build. Each carbon strip is woven into the fiberglass to provide strength and stiffness in the full length of the ski.
Elliptical Radius Sidecut is made up of a longer radius underfoot and shorter radii in the tip and tail of the ski. The long radius underfoot means you can pivot faster and easier, while a shorter radius in the tip and tail result in seamless turn initiation. This sidecut allows for a wide variety of turns lengths and angles.
Micro-cap construction is a hybrid of a premium, sandwich sidewall construction fused with a lightweight, durable cap construction. With micro-cap, the sandwich construction provides awesome edge hold and torsional stability while the ski’s topsheet wraps around and meets the sidewall, protecting the fragile join that can be prone to chipping.
Boat flex" combines a stiffer tip and tail to help settle the skis at speed, with a softer mid section, for big-time pop on request Heavy rocker is best complemented by solid, stiffer tips and tails, to help settle the skis and power through variable snow. Additionally, the stiff tips absorb more vibration when skiers touch down after going airborne. Just add a touch more flex underfoot and it allows the skis to load up and POP on request
Carbon and rubber Stomp Pad absorbs vibration at high speeds and upon landing big airs. A 600mm-long, 15mm-wide carbon/rubber reinforcement underfoot, above the edge, adds strength where it matters most to this performance oriented ski. In addition to protecting the wood core from heavy-duty impact on rails, the carbon and rubber inlay adds stability and vibration absorption under your boots, so that stomped landings feel better, both for you and your skis.
Tip and tail rocker + traditional camber, for the perfect blend of high performance edge hold, easy turn initiation, and float in soft snow.
Sustainability
The Faction poplar, beech and ash cores are sourced from the forests that are growing near the European Faction factories, eliminating the carbon cost of transporting raw materials across great distances. The raw materials are FSC accredited. This means that the forests from which their wood is sourced are managed to support environmental and societal sustainability.
Built with recycled materials, never sacrificing durability. Faction is working with their production partners to eliminate material waste. They now mix base, sidewall and topsheet material scraps back into the raw material used for production, reducing carbon emissions while ensuring the same level of quality & durability. As a fun fact, by integrating recycled materials into their ski bases, they reduce the ecological impact of our bases by 75%.
This ski is produced in a cutting-edge facility that runs on electrical power that is 100% renewable. Additionally, its heating energy comes solely from biomass. The factory no longer uses oil, resulting in annual CO2 emissions reductions of a whopping 10 million kilograms.
